Montreal, Canada (February 19, 2013) – O’Neill, the original surf, snow and youth lifestyle brand for more than 60 years, is happy to announce a new apparel collaboration with freeski enthusiast community, Newschoolers, for the 2013-14 season. A preview of the collection can be found at https://vimeo.com/57398065, with all styles will be available at www.oneilleshop.ca and O’Neill apparel retailers throughout the U.S. and Canada this fall.
The O’Neill-Newschoolers collab includes two jackets and two fleece styles, all inspired by the growing freeski movement and Team O’Neill freeskiers, David Wise and Aspen Spora. Key features of the jacket include Frontline Green and Metal Grey colorways with a custom long fit design, critically taped seams, venting, storm placket and a fixed hood/chinguard combo for extra protection from the elements. An audio pocket zip and connector system allows for easy MP3 player or smartphone hookup, while lift pass and goggle pockets, along with a secret stash compartment, provide secure locations for valuable items. The O’Neill-Newschoolers fleece styles have been designed to match the jackets in New Steel Grey and Atlantic Blue colorways, along with technical moisture wicking fabric, long fit, heathered tech fleece and hoods with drawstrings in the color of its partner jacket. All products in the collection feature O’Neill and Newschoolers patches on the front left side and a unique ‘llama and spork’ logo on the sleeve and back label, a nod to the early days of Newschoolers.
"This partnership with Newschoolers is a great way to bring two snow enthusiast brands together and serve the passionate freeski community," said O’Neill Snow’s Juliet Korver. "We’re really happy about how the styles turned out and want to thank the team at Newschoolers for their support of this collaboration during the past year.”
Newschoolers is the heart and soul of the freeskiing movement and boasts the biggest online ski community in the world. Located at http://www.newschoolers.com, the site has every major pro freeskier relevant to today’s youth, including Team O’Neill riders.
“This was a 50-50 collaboration between O’Neill and Newschoolers, with both brands offering their love for winter sports to make a series of products that combine function and fashion,” said Newschoolers Managing Editor, Jeff Schmuck. “I had the opportunity to wear the new product at this year’s X Games in Aspen and am really proud to add the Newschoolers logo to these designs.”
Schmuck and O’Neill Team Manager Jimmy Adams showcased the new collab at the recent SIA show in Denver: http://www.newschoolers.com/watch/606581.0/SIA-2013---O-Neill. Schmuck also hosted an intro video wearing the Frontline Green collab jacket, during the O’Neill Experience campaign from X Games Aspen 2013, which saw David Wise take gold in Ski SuperPipe after Aspen Spora foreran the SuperPipe for the second consecutive year. O’Neill, the original California surf, snow and youth lifestyle brand, was founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O’Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game. Pioneering the world’s first neoprene wetsuit, Jack had successfully found a way to extend his surf sessions in the bone-chilling breaks of Northern California. He opened up the garage doors to his first surf shop in Santa Cruz soon after.
While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack’s initial vision of producing functional and innovative boardriding products continues to lie at the core of everything the company does. O’Neill’s core values – innovation in style and technology – have seen the brand devote itself wholeheartedly to the evolution of the action sports lifestyle. From the first ever neoprene wetsuit and surf leash, to the world’s first stitchless boardshorts and range of groundbreaking wearable electronics, O’Neill’s progressive spirit will always drive the company forward.
