Rocker boards continue hot streak

Four out of five of the top-selling snowboards this season have been reverse camber models, according to new data from SnowSports Industries America.

Overall, sales of snow goods between August and January were essentially flat, rising .4 % to $2.3 billion.

Nearly every category declined in dollars except for accessories sales, which rose 2.9%. Equipment sales fell 1.5% and apparel sales dropped .4%.

Within those categories there were several bright spots, including helmets, which sold 26% more units than the same period last year. Winter boots sales rose 22% in dollars.

Madonna launching junior's line at Macy's

Madonna and Iconix Brand Group have formed a joint venture that is launching a fast fashion junior’s line exclusively at Macy’s for back-to-school this year.

Madonna and her daughter, Lourdes, are working on the “Material Girl” line, which will include apparel, footwear, handbags and jewelry. Prices will range from $12 to $40.

Macy’s will initially carry Material Girl in 200 stores, which further expansion of categories and stores in 2011.

Premium members can now watch the waves in high definition on their iPhones and iTouches at 84 of the best surfing locations in the world.

I asked Surfline CEO Jonno Wells about this new mobile feature, which the company announced today.

Urban CEO: Nothing more boring than last year's best seller

Urban Outfitters CEO Glen Senk had some interesting things to say during the company’s fourth quarter earnings conference call last week about the company’s business in 2009, its priorities for 2010, its online initiatives and his take on the consumer’s current psyche.

Urban has outperformed most of its peers during the recession. In 2009, sales rose 6% to $1.9 billion. Net income increased 10.1% to $220 million.

Direct to consumer sales increased 19% to $324 million.
