Zumiez continued its winning ways in October with comparable sales rising 6.6%.

There are two impressive things about that number.

First, October is typically not a blockbuster month for retail because it falls in the dead period after back-to-school shopping has ended and before holiday shopping has started.

Second, Zumiez posted the 6.6% increase against a difficult comparison from last year. In 2016, Zumiez’s October comp rose 10.2%.

The company had a great Q3 overall, with comps up 7.9%.

Year-to-date, comparable sales are up 5.1%.

The company said men’s and junior’s posted positive results for the month, while footwear, accessories and hardgoods declined.

Zumiez ended the period with 694 stores.
