Photos from Outdoor Retailer Demo Day

C4 Waterman's Dave Parmenter and Archie Kalepa
By SHELBY STANGER

There was a lot of action going down - and up - at the Outdoor Retailer demo at Jordanelle State Park yesterday.

GoPro had people jumping out of planes. C4 Waterman set the Guiness Book of World records for the most people to paddle on a standup paddleboard on its Supzilla that fit 30 people.

Laird Hamilton and Gerry Lopez were at the demo.

There was also business taking place. I saw buyers from REI as well as buyers from quite a few core standup paddle and outdoor shops talking about products, sales and new orders.

This was my first demo at an OR show and it was pretty impressive to see the amount of people who made the 40-minute trek from Salt Lake City to check out the new gear. The standup paddle section was definitely the busiest place at the show, a lot busier than the kayaking section.

Standup paddling appears to still be growing (I’ll have more on that later). There were also quite a few “traditional” action sports brands at the demo, including Rusty and Von Zipper.
