So I bumped into Orange County skateboard shoe king Pierre André Senizergues at Jack’s Surfboards big party last Thursday. If you have a teenage son, I bet he owns a pair of Etnies, Emerica or És shoes – all made by Pierre’s company, Sole Technology in Lake Forest.

I asked Pierre what was new. He said, “I’m going to New York to speak at the U.N.”

It was a loud party, and Pierre has a heavy French accent. I was thinking, “He can’t mean the United Nations, can he? I must have misunderstood.” Before I could talk to him more, we got interrupted. Lots of people want to talk to Pierre. He takes two steps and people swarm. I didn’t want to be a pest so I moved on.

Instead, I bothered his PR strategist, Brenda Springer, who called me within minutes after I sent her an e-mail. (Sole has the best PR operation in town!).

Brenda filled in the details. Pierre is an executive producer on Leonardo DiCaprio’s new movie, “The 11th Hour.” The movie features experts from all over the world talking about climate change and what can be done about it. It’s being screened this week at the United Nations as the General Assembly holds a thematic debate on climate change. Pierre will sit on a panel with the film’s two directors to discuss the film.

Conservation has been Pierre’s passion for awhile. Sole’s headquarters have many green features, he recently hired a manager for environmental affairs and he drives a Prius. I interviewed him once in it.
