PacSun’s juniors strategy scores in August

The numbers are out. Teen girls loved PacSun‘s new merchandising strategy for juniors last month.

New CEO Sally Frame Kasaks is bringing more fashionable clothes for girls into Anaheim-based PacSun stores by revamping its Bullhead denim line and adding fashion tops. PacSun is making and designing the denim and more of the fashion tops itself and relying less on styles made by Orange County surf brands.

Get this: Comparable sales in juniors rose over 40 percent in August.

Sally believes improving the juniors business can turnaround PacSun, which has struggled of late. She must be feeling pretty good today!

Overall in August, same-store sales, a key measure of a retailer’s health, rose 9.6 percent companywide. At PacSun stores, same-stores sales jumped 11.9 percent while same-stores sales at d.e.m.o. fell 17.3 percent.

Here’s an interview I had with Sally that ran in August in OC METRO.

An interview she did with Joshua Hunter of Transworld Business came out in September. I would link to it but it’s not online yet.
