Grieving employees at Sole Technology have spent the past week paying tribute to co-worker Taryn Corby Hawk, who died in a motorcycle accident on July 26.

Hundreds gathered last week for two paddleouts and a memorial service for Taryn, 35, Sole Technology’s key accounts retail marketing coordinator. He spent 12 years with the company.

“I’m still in shock that this has happened,” said Sole Tech CEO Pierre Andre Senizergues.  “I couldn’t ask for an employee who demonstrated more loyalty to us.”

He said he last saw Taryn breaking down a booth at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach and thanked him for his hard work.

Taryn and a friend were riding Harley Davidson motorcycles after Agenda and were struck by a SUV car driven by a Long Beach restaurant owner, according to CBS News. The other motorcycle rider was also injured.

Taryn, who was described as positive and outgoing, started out in Sole Tech’s data-entry department before moving into customer service. He later became national account coordinator in the sales department and then joined the retail marketing division, where he worked with the company’s key customers, including Tilly’s, PacSun and Zumiez.

Last week, co-workers organized a paddleout and then tribute lunch at Taryn’s favorite eating spot, Cook’s Corner in Trabuco Canyon.

Hundreds attended a memorial service in Huntington Beach and a paddleout hosted by the Hawk family at Taryn’s favorite surf spot, Maghurst, at Huntington State Beach near Brookhurst Street.

Dustin Aron, a close friend and Sole Tech’s marketing communications group manager, said Taryn always had a smile on his face. The two surfed before work regularly.

“Everyone he ever came across or met, they always became his friends,” Dustin said.

Taryn also volunteered in Sole Technology’s charitable programs for children and homeless shelters in downtown Los Angeles, the company said.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters and six nieces and nephews. The family said in a statement that, “Taryn was our family’s heart.”

The Taryn Corby Hawk Memorial Fund was set up to help the family.
