Terry Strumpf exits Vissla, moves to yoga brand

Terry Strumpf, the Vice President of Operations for Vissla and Amuse Society, has exited the company to take a new job with a growing yoga brand.

Terry, who previously worked at Billabong in top executive positions, will start his new role as President of Spiritual Gangster March 9. His last day at Vissla was Friday.

Mutual friends introduced Terry to Ian Lopatin and Vanessa Lee, the couple who own the brand, which is sold in 500 yoga stores, Equinox gyms and in a few major accounts.

Spiritual Gangster is “growing like crazy,” Terry said, and he felt instant chemistry with the owners.

In his last role at Billabong, he was VP of Merchandising and Design and President of Xcel wetsuits, and he especially enjoyed the president’s job and being involved in all aspects of a brand, something he is looking forward to doing again in his new role.

While Spiritual Gangster is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Terry will be opening a design, marketing and operations office in Venice, California.

Spiritual Gangster product is currently made in Los Angeles and is distributed only in North America. Price points range from $40 for T-shirts to $80 to $100 for fleece.

Terry said Paul Naude, the owner of Vissla, Amuse and D’Blanc, was supportive of his decision, and Paul and some of the team took Terry out for a farewell dinner Thursday.

“Paul’s been a mentor, boss and friend for 16 years,” Terry said. “I can’t say enough good things about the guy.”

Currently, Spiritual Gangster has nine employees, and Terry is looking to hire three or four more fairly soon.
