Inaugural events to launch

Press release:

San Clemente, CA, Friday, July 10, 2015 – The Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches will kick off a national effort to celebrate its network of coastal activists with two fundraising events in Malibu, CA and Montauk, NY.  Surfrider Foundation’s Two Coasts: One Ocean events will help support Surfrider’s goal for 100% protection of our nation’s coastline. Every day Surfrider’s powerful activist network fights to keep our water clean, protect the ocean and preserve the coasts.

“Each year our oceans, waves and beaches face a series of increasingly dangerous threats. Without Surfrider’s nationally supported local network, what does the future hold for our coasts?”, said Dr. Chad Nelsen Surfrider CEO.

The Two Coasts: One Ocean events will be held on August 8th in Montauk, NY and September 19th in Malibu at private homes and will feature a world premiere short-film highlighting Surfrider’s work. The NY event will be soundtracked by DJ Tennessee Thomas and DJ KK, big wave surfer Keala Kennelly, co-hosted by model and actor Caroline Murphy, photographer Bruce Weber, creative director Mikey DeTemple, fashion consultants Julie Gilhart and Valerie Boster, New York hotelier Sean MacPherson, pro surfers Quincy Davis and Balaram Stack, and authors Julia Chaplin and Susan Casey. In Malibu, guests will be treated to a live performance from rock band Portugal The Man and hosts will include swimwear designer Tori Praver, surfers Shaun Tomson, Alex Gray, Danny Fuller and Kassia Meador, creative director John Moore and musician Mike D, among others.

Generous sponsors are making these events possible: JetBlue Airways, Ana and Henry Pincus and Rob and Sarah Wells (for Malibu) and Lisa Pierce Fiedelholtz, The Ocean Foundation, Hand Baldachin & Amburgey, LLP, Eric Cole and Anne Templeton (for Montauk).
