Z Supply, LLC Launches Icons of Culture
Z Supply, LLC, an Orange County-based contemporary sportswear company, announced today the launch of an exciting new brand – Icons of Culture. Icons of Culture focuses on telling legendary stories of the past through exclusive artwork, photographs, and never-before-seen images to a new generation of customers. It is a premium collection of graphic tees, custom apparel and accessories, which resurrect iconic brands, musicians, artists, photographers and more.
Icons of Culture’s first heritage-focused women’s capsule collection features original designs from the vaults of iconic surf brands, Ocean Pacific (Op) and Gotcha, debuting exclusively in-store and online at Urban Outfitters. The collection boasts an array of original artwork, silhouettes and, various original fabrications from both brands. The Op by Icons of Culture is available now, and Gotcha by Icons of Culture will be available in May.
The company‘s owners said it has been a real passion project for everyone involved. Z Supply, LLC even brought in Op’s founder, Jim Jenks, and Gotcha’s founder, Michael Tomson, to consult on the collections. Together, they have created authentic fashion pieces that evoke a great sense of nostalgia. Each capsule collection truly embodies the essence of both Op and Gotcha from back-in-the-day.
Icons of Culture collaborated with Iconix Brand Group, Inc. (“Iconix” or the “Company”) to revitalize the most iconic pieces of the brand. The capsule collection includes women’s screen-printed tees and sportswear. Op’s cult-classic corduroy shorts, terry rompers, and screen-printed tees, which dominated the California surf scene of the 1970s and ‘80s, are among the refashioned designs in this collaboration.
“The Icons of Culture x Ocean Pacific collection is a key opportunity for us to authentically connect and share our brand heritage with a new generation of consumers,” said Carolyn D’Angelo, executive vice president, brand management at Iconix Brand Group. “Ocean Pacific has been a staple in surf culture and the California lifestyle for more than four decades, and this is the perfect time to bring our past iconic pieces to market with an industry and a consumer who is looking to find heritage brands that authentically support her lifestyle.”
Gotcha’s influential style in the 1980s and ‘90s surf scene was another essential source of inspiration for the Icons of Culture collection. The face of California beach culture for more than a decade, Gotcha created products the world had never seen before, turning their uniquely crafted surf style and attitude into a global phenomenon. Icons of Culture joined forces with Perry Ellis International, Inc. (Nasdaq: PERY) to design and manufacture a Gotcha-inspired capsule collection that includes women’s screen-printed tees, as well as sportswear items.
“From waist packs and original Gotcha T-shirt graphics to classic mock turtleneck tops, the collection completely embraces the brand’s original designs,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO and President of Perry Ellis International. “The design team behind Icons of Culture have developed a collection that is genuine, classic Gotcha.”
Concurrently, Icons of Culture is premiering a graphics collection drawn from an illustrious list of musicians, fine artists, TV shows, and movies. Icons of Culture breathes new life into the counter-culture movements spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s through exclusive imagery of and by beloved legends including: Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Coltrane, Miles Davis, The Misfits, Nine Inch Nails, Ray Charles, R.E.M., Steppenwolf, Thelonious Monk, The Zombies, fine artist and illustrator John van Hamersveld, rock photographer Tom Gundlefinger O’Neal, TV shows Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and the cult-classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. Through Icons of Culture, the lifestyles and fashions that rocked the last four decades have been reborn.
The Icons of Culture: Op & Gotcha collections will retail from $29 to $99 at Urban Outfitters across the US and online https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/ocean-pacific-womens-collection.
