Pierre Agnes Missing at Sea
Pierre Agnes, the CEO of Boardriders Inc., is missing at sea after a fishing excursion, according to the French newspaper Sud Ouest.
His boat was found washed up and stranded Tuesday morning on the beach near Hossegor.
Rescue crews with boats and helicopters have been searching for him for more than six hours – it is currently late afternoon in Hossegor. I am told from industry sources there that there are a few hours of light left, and the search continues.
Pierre, an avid boatman, went out alone early Tuesday morning to fish in very foggy conditions. Sources on the ground tell me there is a fairly big swell today that is breaking out a long way. According to Sud Ouest, he radioed maritime officials at 7:30 am that he was delaying his return because of the fog. His boat washed ashore about two hours later.
Pierre, a true original, is one of the giants of the industry and led Quiksilver through its recent tough times.
He is known for his absolute devotion to the brand, to the company, and to the surf industry overall, and for building a very profitable business in Europe.
We are sending our very best thoughts to Hossegor – to him, his family and everyone there. We sincerely hope they find him.
