Boardriders Leaders from the Past and Present Head to France
Former Quiksilver executives, current Boardriders leaders from around the world, and industry friends of Pierre Agnes have flown into France to support the Boardriders team there and his family.
Services for Pierre will take place Friday in his hometown of Capbreton, France, where people used to affectionately joke that he was the mayor.
He was a well-known figure in the entire region, and about 300 people from a local surf club gathered for a silent candlelight memorial for him Friday by the ocean, according to the newspaper Sud Ouest. Professional surfers, city officials and many others attended.
All the old Quiksilver friends gathered at Pierre’s house Sunday to support his family.
Boardriders has not yet set a date for memorial services in Southern California and elsewhere in the world.
Pierre’s body has not yet been recovered.
I know his passing has shaken the industry, and many people have been asking us for information. This has been a hard story to cover as a journalist because Pierre was a friend and I know the team in France well. I know what he meant to them, and to the whole company. And the uncertainty surrounding his passing makes the situation even more heartbreaking for his family and for the company.
We will do a big tribute story that captures what a truly unique individual he was, and how he impacted Quiksilver over the years, when the time is right for his friends and family. In the meantime, anyone who would like to share memories of Pierre can email them to me at [email protected]
We will also provide details about services in Southern California as soon as we have them.
