Industry Brands Open Stores at Upscale Century City Mall
Industry brands are opening stores at the remodeled and expanded Century City Shopping Center in Los Angeles.
Westfield, the owner of the mall, spent $1 billion on the upgrade according to news reports, and created a beautiful, differentiated space.
Volcom will open there at the end of August. The 2,148 square foot flagship store has a great location in between Vans and Nordstrom and above Tesla and a Kylie Jenner pop-up store.
Custom features at the Volcom store will include a 14-foot Volcom “stone” that will create a photo op for shoppers. The store will also have an upside down mini ramp on the ceiling, Volcom tells me.
Stance is also opening a store in Century City. The 1,500 square foot store will open in early September, just a few weeks after a Stance store opened at the Irvine Spectrum Center. (We have an interview with Stance President John Wilson about the Stance retail strategy and other Stance developments coming soon.)
Vans has already opened a store in Century City, and it’s one of the nicest Vans stores I have seen. Vans tells me it’s a new format for the brand.
It is open and airy and has a dedicated, eye-catching Vans Customs area. The store has 2,023 square feet of selling space and opened in December 2017.
TravisMathew, the golf brand that crosses into surf lifestyle, has a very nice store at the center as well.
It was the first time we have seen a Vineyard Vines store. The southern brand used surfboards for decoration in the store.
And about that Kylie Jenner pop-up – there was literally a line to get in on a Tuesday evening, monitored by doormen. Kylie was not there, however. The line was simply to get into the store to shop her makeup collection.
Also of note: Nordstrom and Nike teamed up for a special Nike shop-in-shop for women that is similar to the one at Nordstrom’s Seattle flagship.
We have photos of what we saw at the Century City Mall in our slide show below.
