LEUS Introduces Microplastic Catching Laundry Bag
Did you know washing machines don’t catch the microplastics that break off your synthetic clothing during each cycle? And our microfiber towels are no exception.
Microplastics (synthetic microfibers), fabrics such as polyester, nylon and spandex, are poisoning the food chain and fish and other wildlife readily consume them. These microplastics are being found in our oceans and fresh water worldwide. A study funded by Patagonia and researchers from University of California at Santa Barbara found that, on average, synthetic fleece jackets or blankets release 1.7 grams of microfibers with each wash. On average, every time we do our laundry, 9 million microfibers are released into wastewater treatment plants that cannot filter them. Also, up to 878 tons of synthetic microfibers end up in our oceans, rivers, and lakes every year.
The only problem is these materials are built for performance, and help us in our everyday lives. But, we have found the first step – place your microfiber towels and clothing in our new Eco Wash Bag during each wash cycle, and catch the microplastics that break off before they enter our water streams.
Together, we can take the first step and start making a difference.
