SIMA Awards Going Forward Tonight
The SIMA Awards are going forward tonight at the Observatory in Santa Ana.
According to the Orange County Health Department, there are two confirmed cases of coronavirus and three presumptive cases in the county.
“The risk of infection to the public in Orange County is believed to be low,” the healthy agency says on its website.
SIMA Executive Director Sean Smith said they have been monitoring the situation closely and decided to go forward with the event.
“We are continuing to follow CDC and local government guidelines (size of the group, local attendees, etc.) and feel comfortable that we fall within those guidelines,” he said. “I’ve heard from a number of brands who called to make sure we are still holding the awards and they were excited to hear that it’s still on. In fact, we sold more than 30 tickets yesterday alone, and nearly a dozen more today.”
“That being said, we respect anyone’s decision not to attend and encourage anyone who is sick or feeling like they might be coming down with something to not attend. We look forward to celebrating the great work of the surf industry tonight at the SIMA Awards.”
Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Observatory, 3503 S. Harbor Blvd, Santa Ana, CA 92704.
