Stab and Billabong Release New Film, “For Whom The Atolls”
Stab is excited to share its and Billabong’s new full-length film, For Whom The Atolls, starring Ethan Ewing, Griffin Colapinto, and Seth Moniz, on the trip of their lives aboard Martin Daly’s famed Indies Trader, somewhere deep in the Pacific.
“These are three of the best young regular-foots at one of the world’s premier right-handers,” said Stab’s editor-in-chief and the film’s producer, Ashton Goggans. “What’s not to love?”
The film will be released for free sometime this year, but under the circumstances, Stab and Billabong wanted to take the chance to do some good with the project. Over the next three weeks, 50% of all film sales will benefit World Central Kitchen.
While they ripped the title from Hemingway’s most celebrated anti-war novel and pulled the film’s opening line from its John Donne epigraph, Stab and Billabong are enthralled to help World Central Kitchen realize Hemingway’s old pal John Steinbeck’s words, which serve as World Central Kitchen’s mantra: “Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people may eat, we will be there.”
“This film is a special bookmark in time for Griff, Seth and Ethan, who thought they were just going on a trip to warm up for the 2020 WCT season,” says Billabong VP Marketing Evan Slater, who offered up the title and was instrumental in producing the film.
“In many ways, this was the last great surf trip of the Pre-Covid world, so it’s only appropriate that proceeds from this project will support World Central Kitchen, an organization doing heroic work to feed those severely affected by this crisis.”
For Whom The Atolls will be available for purchase until May 25th, and will come with a download of the film. After May 25th the film will disappear indefinitely and be released for free later this year.
Thank you for supporting independent surf media, and for helping Stab and Billabong feed those in need during this difficult time.
Surfing doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and since 2004 Stab has been its premiere subcultural stimulant. A ravenous and irreverent international player, feet firmly in warm sand, Stab draws influence from popular culture as much as it influences. Stab is at its best when uncomfortable, reporting stories that need to be told and creating imagery and motion that bring big ideas with big names to life. www.StabMag.com
