RVCA Debuts New Collaboration with Supermodel Stella Maxwell for Fall 2022
World renown supermodel and LGBTQIA+ advocate Stella Maxwell has teamed up with PM Tenore to create a collection that encapsulates all of her spirited duality. Inspired by the polar-opposite but always-connected cities of New York and Los Angeles and their equally fascinating early hip-hop eras, the RVCA x Stella Maxwell collection is sexy-slouchy, masc-femme and all-around cool.
“Stella gives a nod to old school 90s east coast west coast vibes,” says RVCA Founder and President PM Tenore. “This collaboration opens up the vault to vintage 80s and 90s throwbacks with a fashion twist.”
“I like the balance of opposites,” Maxwell says. “I love being home in LA and having my space and doing my thing, and at the same time I love being in New York with my friends. It’s kinda like an Arnold Palmer, LA is the lemonade and New York is the tea.” Let’s sip on something good:
The starting point of the RVCA x Stella Maxwell collection was Maxwell’s own New York and LA wardrobe: a prized collection of t-shirts, leather jackets and denim. Vintage-inspired long-and-short ($45) sleeve tees are the graphic pulse of the collection, and can be styled with a sexy-punk twist, or with a menswear-inspired casual streetwear vibe. From there, Maxwell and Tenore pulled inspiration from the supermodel’s anemoia (that means nostalgia for a time you never experienced) for 80’s and 90’s style. Baggy stonewash jeans (Anthem Denim, $100), a punch-punk red plaid mini-dress (Blake Dress, $65), and a swishy windbreaker pants and jacket set (Swish Pant, $85, Throwback Windbreaker, $100) reference these iconic eras with updated, laid-back cool.
Of course, if you’ve ever seen a street style photo of Stella Maxwell (and you have), you know a priority for her style is comfort. The untailored pieces in this collection are unmatched for their oversize, comfy-chic look. Maxwell’s elevated approach to comfort is worthy of sidewalk double takes, from the soft Notorious Flannel ($90) to the moody blue Maxwell Hoodie ($85) and Maxwell Sweats ($80).
Once you’re comfy, the Stella Maxwell move is to add an element of unexpected elegance. In the case of the RVCA x Stella Maxwell collection, she created the pieces that have become her self-proclaimed favorites: a throw-over-anything long black trench (Driver Jacket, $200) and an edgy black-and-white leather jacket ($100).
Maxwell was born in Belgium and spent her childhood there until she was ten. As a small wink to her birthplace, the hangtag for the collection is an homage to Manneken Pis, a famous landmark in Brussels, Belgium. The piece is a bronze sculpture that depicts a young boy pissing water into the fountain below (“Manneken Pis” is Dutch for “little pissing man”) that has existed in the city since the early 1600s: a public art prankster original.
The collection also includes what will surely become RVCA and Stella Maxwell classics, like a lemon meringue silky slip dress (Ninety Dress, $90), and an oversize cotton button-up with embroidery on the cuff (Angeles Shirt, $80).
The collection was released for 72 hour early access for loyalty members on October 7th with the two drops being open to the public on: October 10, 2022 and October 17, 2022 for wide release.
