Kate Bosworth Drew Inspiration from North Shore for Roxy Collab
The idea of working with Roxy had been on Kate Bosworth’s mind for some time.
So it only made sense to team with the surf brand on a summer capsule, which is now in stores, a little over 20 years after Bosworth starred in the 2002 film “Blue Crush.”
The actress was on hand last week at Nordstrom South Coast Plaza for a launch event that included light fare and jewelry making to celebrate the collection of swimwear, shorts, crewnecks, dresses, tops, and accessories. The line retails from $36 for a bucket hat to $130 for a rashguard one-piece swimsuit.
“Working with Roxy has been in the back of my mind for years,” Bosworth told SES. “The brand has been dedicated to supporting women for decades and we share a deep love for the North Shore of Hawaii, respect and kindness, and of course, surfing. In the end, it really felt like joining a family, a truly organic experience that I loved every second of.”
The collaboration marked the first collaboration between the two.
Bosworth said it was most important that the collection be “easy to move in” when she and the Roxy team approached the design and development of the pieces.
“This product is a great option for surfing, but also to pair with a good pair of jeans for a weekend getaway,” Bosworth said. “It’s an homage to the early 2000s surf culture, filled with color and optimism.”
She also drew inspiration for some of the design details from her time living in Oahu.
“Back when I lived on the North Shore, I remember seeing so many women wearing mismatched bikinis and thinking that was so cool,” Bosworth said. “I wanted to showcase this in the collection, which is why all our swim is reversible and gives you the latitude to play around with the color block and print.”
The collection is available through Roxy and other retailers’ online sites, in addition to brick-and-mortar. Distribution is broad and includes major chains such as Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Pacsun, Tilly’s, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
The collaboration also has a presence in a number of core shops, including Maui Nix, Jack’s Surfboards, Aqua East Surf Shop, Hawaiian Island Creations, Quiet Storm, Huntington Surf & Sport, Spyder, and others.
