What’s New: First Drop of Roark Capsule Bridges Japan Trip, Hoffman Fabrics
A recent trip through Hokkaido and the discovery of ‘70s prints at Hoffman Fabrics helped set the stage for Roark’s “Aloha From Japan” capsule collection.
“As with all things Roark, the ‘Aloha From Japan’ collection came about as we searched for inspiration for our upcoming campaign centered around Hokkaido, Japan,” Marketing Director Corey Brindley told SES. “With Hoffman Fabrics being just down the road from us, we dug through their archives and found these authentic 1970s-era Japanese tropical prints.”
The first drop totals five menswear pieces, including boardshorts, woven shirts, and a bucket hat sold direct-to-consumer and through Roark‘s wholesale partners. The collection retails from $49 for the bucket hat to $115 for the button-up, collared shirts.
“Working alongside the Hoffman team to ensure the quality of the patterns stayed true to their original intention and that it was still printed in Japan was an awesome experience,” Brindley said.
“The attention to detail of all teams involved really brought this limited ‘Aloha from Japan’ collection to life.”
Those prints from the famed print house will also be used to inspire a second capsule aimed at the women’s market and set for rollout Aug. 2.
Roark debuted its women’s line at Surf Expo last September for retailers and released it to consumers in November with an assortment that included outerwear, pants, printed wovens, jumpsuits, and flannels.
