Action Sports Industry Gathers to Raise Funds for Kids in Foster Care
In honor of Foster Care Awareness and Mental Health Awareness Month, industry veteran Vicki Redding, hosted the Reach For The Stars Gala to raise crucial funds for local nonprofit, Urban Surf 4 Kids. The event raised over $50K in donations to support surf therapy, mentoring, and life skills programs for local children living in foster care.
The special annual event took place on Saturday, May 4, at The Bell Tower Regional Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita. Proceeds from the event will fund five therapeutic programs for nearly 500 children ages 3-18 years old, who are survivors of domestic violence, abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
“Urban Surf 4 Kids has been serving children in crisis for the past 16 years and yet a lot of people didn’t know about the amazing work they do. I became a volunteer, mentor, and Board Member three years ago and my goal was to bring awareness for this incredible organization to Orange County. It was important to make the biggest impact that I could for the kids, so I invited everyone I knew to join us, and was humbled by the amount of people that came out to support the event. I couldn’t be happier with the turnout and the success of our first gala in Orange County.”
About the event: The Reach For The Stars Gala featured a wine pull, a silent auction, and a live auction. The evening included a DJ, an open bar, and appetizers, dinner, and dessert stations, by Tutto Fresco. Guests also enjoyed a photo booth and a program filled with inspirational presentations.
