In the surf industry, the connection between our livelihood and the health of the ocean is indisputable. Without vibrant, clean oceans, the very essence of our industry faces jeopardy. From sea level rise and plastic pollution to water quality and beach access issues, the challenges are numerous and escalating.

Surfers and the surf industry have a unique relationship with the ocean, one that extends beyond recreation and tourism. The health of our oceans directly impacts the quality of waves, the vibrance of coastal economies, and the overall well-being of our communities. This is why the Surf Industry Members Association (SIMA) has been at the forefront of advocating for ocean environmental groups for over 35 years, raising more than $10 million to support coastal protection initiatives globally.

ScreenshotGiven the accelerating threats to our oceans, SIMA is launching an unprecedented Week of Charity for Our Oceans. We call upon every brand, surfer, and industry partner to participate in this critical initiative. The week will feature key events designed to rally support and generate funds for ocean conservation.

The surf industry is a significant economic driver. Globally, surf recreation and tourism expenditure is reported to be $65 billion per year. Good quality waves are not just natural phenomena; they are critical assets that fuel recreation, tourism, and the sale of surf goods. As decision-makers in the industry, it is imperative to recognize and act upon the true value of surfing, incorporating robust efforts to protect this invaluable resource.

This is a pivotal moment for the surf industry. The Week of Charity for Our Oceans is an opportunity for all stakeholders to unite in a concerted effort to safeguard our oceans. Your involvement, whether through participating in events or contributing to the auctions, is crucial. Together, we can ensure that our industry not only survives but thrives, anchored by a commitment to protecting the oceans that sustain us.
