Saba Surf Opens Flagship Surf Shop and Cafe in West Los Angeles
Saba Surf, the California-based lifestyle brand renowned for its premium surf wax and apparel, is excited to announce the grand opening of its first-ever flagship surf shop and cafe, located at 12912 Venice Blvd in the heart of West Los Angeles. This new space serves as a vibrant community hub for surfers, offering a blend of premium surf gear, local artisan products, and a unique cafe experience.
“We’re thrilled to open this space for the locals,” said Gal Tschneider, Co-Founder of Saba Surf. “So many surf towns have a dedicated space for surfers to hang out, grab a coffee, and check out the latest boards. West LA has been missing that for a while, and we wanted to make it a reality.”
A Curated Surf Collection
The surf shop features a carefully curated selection of surfboards crafted by some of California’s finest local shapers, including:
- Matt Pagan – A South Bay local with deep roots in the pro surfing world.
- Grant Noble – A young talent known for his exquisite longboards, offering his first solo collection after departing Russell Surfboards.
- James Kaiser – A South Bay shaper celebrated for his boards tailored to local waves.
- Danny Norris – A former MLB pitcher turned shaper, producing handcrafted boards in his Ojai barn.
In addition to boards, Saba Surf offers Buell wetsuits, known for their high-quality, buttery-soft designs made to withstand chilly waters. A diverse range of specialty surf fins from legendary shapers like Album, Ryan Lovelace, Channel Islands, Tyler Warren, and Troy Elmore are also available. Additionally, the shop stocks stylish and functional towels and changing towels from Slowtide, as well as their signature small-batch apparel and hand-poured surf wax.
An Elevated Cafe Experience
Saba Surf’s café brings together a variety of unique offerings for customers to enjoy before or after a surf session. Featuring a rotating selection of pastries from local kitchens, the café’s gluten-free chocolate chip banana bread has quickly become a fan favorite. On weekends, guests can enjoy freshly made signature burritos and delectable pastries from beloved LA bakery, Tartine. The café proudly serves organic and regeneratively grown espresso, decaf, and cold brew supplied by Gnarwhal Coffee, ensuring the highest quality coffee for its customers. With comfortable seating and a welcoming vibe, the space is perfect for those looking to work remotely, gather with friends, or simply relax and unwind.
Community-Centered Events
More than just a retail space, Saba Surf aims to foster a sense of community with a lineup of engaging events. From food pop-ups and surf film premieres to live bands, art shows, and comedy nights, there’s something for everyone. The shop plans to be a welcoming space where surfers and locals alike can gather, socialize, and enjoy West LA’s vibrant surf culture. The full roster of events will be announced on Saba Surf’s Instagram page, @saba_surf.
“I feel like there’s been a shift in LA cafes and shopping over the past few years,” added Laura Quintana, Co-Founder of Saba Surf. “You used to have to have a set destination and drive to check out a cool shop, but lately I’ve been seeing more and more localized neighborhood spots. That’s what we’re looking to create here at Saba. We have a rush for kids from Venice high that stop in before school, young families that come in and share a pastry on our comfy couches and rugs, then the WFH crowd pulls up. Every day is different, of course, but we’ve been getting a lot of local neighborhood love and I’m excited for what’s to come… especially once we open our back patio!”
Saba Surf is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on weekends from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Special hours will also be announced for upcoming events. For more information, visit sabasurf.com.
