Culture Shifters Wins Gold in Fourth Annual Anthem Awards
Burton Snowboards is thrilled to announce that Culture Shifters is honored to be a gold winner in the category of Events: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the 4th Annual Anthem Awards. Envisioned by Selema Masekela and Zeb Powell and powered by Burton Snowboards, Culture Shifters brings together BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) change-makers to build a community of snowboarders that represents what Burton hopes the future of snowboarding will look like—diverse, inclusive, and empowering.
“It is a whole and entire honor to receive an Anthem Award for Culture Shifters,” said Selema Masekela, one of the creators of Culture Shifters. “From the outset, this idea was based in creating community and reflection for marginalized peoples, in the powerful landscape that is the mountains. What it has grown into in three short years is beyond my wildest dreams. I am grateful to Burton and the Carpenter family for partnering with Zeb and me to power the future of what snowboarding can and will look like.”
When asked how he feels about Culture Shifters winning an Anthem Award, pro snowboarder and Culture Shifters co-creator Zeb Powell had this to say, “It’s hard to explain the pure vibe of Culture Shifters. It’s almost as if everyone’s operating on a different frequency of pure joy and humble wonder.”
George Carpenter is also very honored by the recognition for Culture Shifters. “As a family owner of Burton, I believe Culture Shifters has the power to challenge the status quo of the outdoors,” said George Carpenter, co-creator of Culture Shifters. “By resourcing change-makers and amplifying diverse voices, we can reshape the landscape, the culture and the growth trajectory of snowboarding to be a sport where all people are valued and celebrated.”
