Marketing/Sales Assistant

Rusty Surfboards is looking for a marketing professional to join our team as a Marketing/Sales Assistant reporting to the Director of Sales. Our industry has seen a resurgence in interest over the past year, pointing to growth opportunities for the Rusty brand and your career going forward. As one of the leading global surfboard brands, Rusty Surfboards is in a prime position to build on these opportunities. We’re creating a new position at the company to assist the Director drive new programs and initiatives as we continue to grow our footprint. As a Marketing/Sales Assistant, you will be responsible for managing the execution and results of on-going and ad hoc projects as well as having a customer facing role. To be successful you’ll need to have surf-specific and generic experience as well as the ability and desire to grow, learn and kick ass.

Because the role has a critical customer facing component, and because we are a surf brand, first and foremost, it is critical that you have competency as a surfer. This is defined as – you have been surfing long enough to understand the technicalities of how boards work, how they differ and be capable of clearly communicating that to an audience. Your duties necessitate that you have strong attention to detail, ability to expertly juggle multiple projects at once, and an eagerness to tackle challenges head on. This role will include project management, media production (photos/videos), creative work, content marketing, sales support (for consumers and dealers), team management, public relations, and a strong collaborative effort to build brick-n-mortar and online channels. You’ll receive ample training and support from the current staff, who will help you get acquainted with the tools and protocols necessary for the position.


1. Surf-specific

  • Competent surfer and brand ambassador
  • Clearly communicate surfboard design concepts
  • Good grasp on the competitive and media landscape

2. Project Management

  • Coordinate with internal staff, ambassadors, and vendors to assign and track task progress
  • Balance competing priorities and deadlines
  • Take ownership over projects and ensure timely and quality execution

3. Media Production

  • Coordinate photo shoots, take photos, and edit them
  • Coordinate video shoots, use video camera, and edit footage
  • Equipment is not necessary. Company can provide the gear.

4. Creative Work

  • Basic editing and updating skills from templates, using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Minimal creative skills required, for the brand has several creative staff to support efforts
  • Interface with marketing team to coordinate priorities for product launches and campaigns

5. Content Marketing

  • Work with marketing team to develop stories, schedule production and distribution
  • Monitor reach and engagement of distributed content to optimize content production
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest surfboard trends and media news to capitalize on opportunities
  • Build media and influencer relations to further place the brand and build collabs

6. Other Responsibilities
