Mountain Dew launches San Diego surfing program with Pro Surfer Josh Kerr

San Diego, Calif., September 10, 2014 ­– Mountain Dew® is teaming up with one of the most dynamic surfers in the world and long-time San Diego resident, Josh Kerr, to launch a local surf program with San Diego County college surf teams including the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM).  In addition, DEW® will sponsor Kerr’s second film project titled “Kerrzy” which will premiere across San Diego County at local college campuses and La Paloma Theater in Encinitas on September 17.

“I’m really stoked to be partnering with Mountain Dew and to help support surfing with a great local program,” said Kerr. “San Diego is a great place to live and I am excited to see DEW continue its authentic role in action sports in a community that really embodies the surfing lifestyle.”




Josh is an amazingly talented surfer and one of the most exciting guys on tour.  We are extremely happy to welcome him to the DEW team,” said Matt Johnson, Marketing Director, Mountain Dew California. “We were looking for the right way to support the San Diego surfing community and teaming up with Josh was the perfect fit.”  

Mountain Dew will support local college surf teams including UCSD and CSUSM, by assisting with club needs and working together to design and create custom gear in collaboration with Kerr and Rusty apparel. The gear will also be made available through a promotion at select local retail shops around San Diego County in Fall 2014.

The upcoming film presented by Rusty and Mountain Dew will feature Kerr along with a cast of friends. Following the premiere, Kerrzy will be showcased at various colleges in the San Diego area including UCSD, California State University San Marcos and San Diego State. For those not in the area, Surfing Magazine will feature the full-length video online during a two-day website takeover on surfingmag.com on October 9 and 10.

Later this fall, DEW and Kerr will also host an Instagram contest, asking fans to share their best Southern California surf spots via the hashtag #DewSanDiegoSurf. Winners will receive custom gear and an opportunity to tour a top surfing destination in San Diego with Kerr himself.
