Surfline and Hurley raise $5,000 for earthquake relief

Rob Machado and Bob Hurley joined the Surfline crew to serve up drinks at the A restaurant in Newport Beach last week.

It was a cocktails-for-a-cause benefit, and it raised more than $5,000 for SurfAid’s Sumatran earthquake relief fund.

SurfAid said on its web site that it launched an Emergency Response Appeal to help the people of Padang who were hit by a 7.9 earthquake on September 30.

SurfAid’s Program Director, David Lange, narrowly escaped death as he fled the Ambacang Hotel, which then collapsed, killing many and trapping others, the site says.

Donations to SurfAid’s earthquake relief fund may be spent on recovery and development work in the disaster affected areas.

Here are a few of the photos that Brecht Van’thof shot of the event for Hurley. You can see more photos on Hurley’s web site, by clicking here.
