Beach Bums calls it quits, employee says

Cliff Haddadin

Updated at 2:56 pm with Cliff Haddadin’s confirmation in this post.

Beach Bums Board Shops is going out of business, according to an employee at its last remaining open store.

The company’s website is also inactive.

I called phone numbers for nine stores. All but the Temecula store had busy signals or phone lines that had been disconnected.

The Temecula employee told me it was the last store open, and that that store was closing as well.

At this time, there is no bankruptcy filing for Beach Bums that I could find.

I last talked to Beach Bums owner Cliff Haddadin in January 2009, when the chain had closed its Mission Valley store in San Diego, but still had 11 stores open. That store count was down from 14 in Southern California and Nevada in 2007.

In January 2009, Cliff said the company had no plans to file for bankruptcy.

I have phone and email messages into Cliff and will update this story with any new information as I receive it. He replied later this afternoon, and his confirmation and farewell are in this post.
