SIA and The Ski Channel form new partnership to create multi-media projects and events at snow show

Press Release:

– The Ski Channel chooses SIA Snow Show as home to new Ski Film Festival

MCLEAN, Va. (Dec. 7, 2010) – Steve Bellamy, Chairman and CEO of The Ski Channel television network and David Ingemie, President of SnowSports Industries America (SIA) announced today a long-term partnership, which will include a variety of multi-media projects and events during the 2011 Snow Show at the Colorado Convention Center (Jan 27-30). As part of the partnership, The Ski Channel has chosen Denver and the Snow Show for its inaugural Ski Channel Film Festival and Ski Film Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which will all be televised.

The partnership entails The Ski Channel creating numerous television programs from the Snow Show including making a television property out of the long-standing Snow Fashion and Trends Show, which will now be broadcast to over 40,000,000 U.S. households. That show will give a behind-the-scenes look at snow sports fashion; including interviews with top designers, manufacturers and athletes and will feature 686, Under Armour, Tecnica USA as well as over 25 other renowned snow sports brands.

“We are pleased that The Ski Channel has chosen Colorado for its annual Film Festival and Ski Film Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” said Bill Ritter, Governor of Colorado. “The synergies between the network, Colorado, the Snow Show and a film festival devoted to mountain sports will be a win for everyone.”

Downtown Denver and the SIA Snow Show will provide the backdrop for the annual Ski Channel Film Festival on Jan 27-29 at the Colorao Convention Center. The Film Festival will also play host to the Induction Ceremony for the Ski Film Hall of Fame. Between 50 and 100 top films will be showcased from within categories dedicated to ski, snowboard, mountain sports, resort films and trailers. The 3-day long event will also play host to discussion panels with topics such as film sponsorship, filmmaking and equipment.

“We were down to four great host cities for the Ski Channel Film Festival,” said Bellamy. “But, Denver and specifically the SIA Snow Show — with over 20,000 industry attendees — ultimately seemed like the best spot for the event’s success. We are going to pour all our resources into this event and build a Sundance meets the Academy Awards for mountain sports.”

“The Ski Channel is a real gift to the snow sports industry,” said Ingemie. “Much like The Golf Channel and The Tennis Channel were incredible drivers for their sports, The Ski Channel will be able to bring snow sports to millions of living rooms, 24 hours a day.”

In addition to the film festival and producing the new snow fashion television show — The Ski Channel will provide extensive coverage of the Show and industry leaders by placing flat screen televisions throughout the Colorado Convention Center featuring Ski Channel programming including segments produced at last year’s Snow Show. The Ski Channel television network will be available at all the partner hotels during the Show.
