Santa Ana, CA (Dec 14, 2010)— Split Clothing, the innovative board-sport lifestyle brand that takes inspiration from its skate and surf team, is proud to announce the signing of Mikala Jones to lead their surf team.

 

As part of the re-launch of the brand, Mikala will play a key role in establishing the image of the company. Mikala has been a top rider for Split since 2001. He is known globally for his free surfing lifestyle, traveling the world, living most of the time in Bali and part-time in Hawaii. The first collection for the re-launch of the young men’s line is set for spring 2011 and women’s is fall 2011.

 

“Mikala was the first person I thought of when planning to re-launch the brand,” said David Patri, President of Life Distribution, LLC. “You cannot say enough good things about Mikala, he embodies the relaxed lifestyle of surfing while maintaining the drive to explore and discover new places, waves and culture.”

 

Split Clothing Brand and Mikala Jones became synonymous during the early 2000’s and it was only natural that Mikala lead the brand again. Split will offer Mikala signature boardshorts for Fall 2011 after thorough testing. “MJ Allday” is in the water constantly, tracking swells, developing new camera techniques, getting the work done. His current sponsors are Split, Verta, Matuse, T&C, D Surf, Dragon and Future Fins. We all dream of his lifestyle and he makes it look easy.

Split Clothing Brand was acquired by Life Distribution, LLC in May, 2010 by its original founder David Patri. The brand was started in 1988 by design students in San Luis Obispo, California. The original idea was to create something unique. A common bond was built between friends around this premise. Graphics found their way to surfboards, skateboards, ramps and T-shirts. In 1990, still a garage business, the motto was “don’t label me.” Not wanting to be pigeon-holed as a “surf” or “skate” company, Split became the first “cross board sport” company. The Split brand grew with global distribution and became a major label for consumers in the mid 2000’s. The brand identity was updated at this time to establish a strong global brand message that revolved around their skate, surf and musical influences. The brand stayed focused on their skate and surf teams supporting the lifestyle that made the brand potent from the beginning.
