More photos from Surf Summit

Editor’s note: There are more photos from Surf Summit 15 here in an earlier story I posted from Mexico.

Surf Summit 15 wrapped up Friday night on the beach with surf legend Martin Potter interviewing Keith Malloy, Nathan Fletcher and Tom Curren on stage in a fascinating look at the lives of some compelling industry athletes.

Former SIMA President Dick Baker’s family also presented the Dick Baker Memorial Award to International Surfing Association President and Reef Co-founder Fernando Aguerre. (Read excerpts from Fernando’s speech here.)

Other presentations during the week included a talk with environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau, a keynote address by skate legend and filmmaker Stacy Peralta, a talk about branding and business by Ken Schmidt of Harley-Davidson, and a look at the future of digital communication by David Shing of AOL.

SIMA, BRA and Surf Expo also gave updates, including marking the 10-year anniversary of BRA, which was founded by Roy Turner of Surf Expo who previously owned a surf shop in North Carolina for many years.

Attendees also broke up into groups and rotated through several roundtables on hot topics such as fostering emerging brands, creating special product for specialty retailers, surviving Amazon and other price under-cutters, and more.

There was, of course, lots of time for those who came to surf, hang out by the pool, go to dinners in town and build relationships in a relaxed setting.
