Ocean Minded organizes cold weather clothing drive

Press release:

SAN CLEMENTE, CA (January 22, 2013): In response to the recent record freezing temperatures in San Diego, Ocean Minded, a leading brand of high quality footwear, has organized a clothing drive in conjunction with the 17th Annual Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge this Saturday, January 26th at Bonita Cove on San Diego’s MissionBay.

The Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge is one of the longest running paddle sport races in California and attracts hundreds of athletes each year. As a presenting sponsor, Ocean Minded has recognized this event as an opportunity give back to the local community and will host an organized beach cleanup in addition tospearheading a clothing drive.

The recent cold front brought extreme low temperatures to San Diego County and has deeply impacted local shelters, such as The Alpha Project, a nonprofit human services organization that serves over 4,000 men, women, and children each day. In effort to aid in the depletion of cold weather supplies, Ocean Minded is encouraging the local community and those who plan to attend the Ocean Challenge, to clean out their closets of wearable sweaters, hoodies, jackets and/or blankets, as well as plastic sheeting, tarps and even heavy duty garbage bags, and bring them to the event. All donated items will be collected at the Ocean Minded tent between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm and handed over to The Alpha Project to be dispersed to those in need.

“Being ‘Ocean Minded’ extends beyond the waterways and beaches we know and love,” explains Marketing Director, Bob Tanner. “It’s important that we take care of our local community and this small gesture can make a meaningful impact to someone inneed.”

Donations can be made 24-hours a day at the city of San Diego’s cold weather shelter at 16th Street and Newton Avenue in Barrio Logan, for those who cannot make it out to the event. ABOUT OCEAN MINDED™

Be Ocean Minded™. That simple idea is the foundation of our company. Being ‘ocean minded’ and living an ‘ocean lifestyle’ begins with the inspiration and allure that the world’s oceans and beaches offer each one of us. The Ocean Minded™ brand enables an individual to identify, visualize, and embrace their personal beach and water-oriented passions in the course of their daily adventure.

Live. Protect. Respect™. We can no longer deny that ourplanet is rapidly becoming a crowded and polluted place. Ocean Minded™ believes we should utilize recycled and sustainable materials in our footwear, apparel and accessories whenever possible, and we consistently strive to achieve this.

Additionally, we feel that as both a corporation and a group of individuals, it is essential to Live, Protect, and Respect our environment. Since 1996, we have been organizing community beach cleanups around the world, and educating our customers on the importance of leaving their chosen playgrounds in better condition than they were found.

Our belief that everything eventually ends up in the ocean has led us to host additional cleanups in the mountains and on the banks of inland rivers and lakes. These are the cornerstones of our brand and we invite you to Be Ocean Minded™.
