STOKED Los Angeles youth and supporters to snowboard, skateboard and surf in one day

Press release:

Los Angeles, CA (February 22, 2013) – STOKED, a nonprofit organization that empowers underserved youth through action sports culture, will hold their second annual Trishredathon on March 24, 2013. The Trishredathon is a high-energy action sports triathlon benefiting the youth development programs of STOKED Los Angeles. Trishredletes will join STOKED youth to snowboard, surf, and skateboard all in one day – also known as the California Trifecta – to raise funds and awareness for STOKED Los Angeles. This will be the very first time STOKED youth complete the trifecta. The event starts and ends in Los Angeles, California. The snowboarding portion will take place at Snow Summit in Big Bear Mountain, California, where STOKED Los Angeles hosts its Snow Mentor programs.

“Southern California is one of the only places in the world where you can surf, snowboard, and skateboard in a single day. Many of our kids will never get the chance to do this. We want to show them that they can accomplish anything with some determination and community,” says STOKED founder and president Steve Larosiliere. “We’re using this day to gather our supporters and our kids to achieve something together that hasn’t been done before while fundraising for STOKED.”

“STOKED has presented a huge amount of opportunities for me; new connections, new friends, a greater outlook on life and what hard work and dedication can bring,” STOKED youth Destiny expresses. “Action sports offer me a challenge. I’m not much of a skateboarder or snowboarder but every time I do decide to try those sports, I am always challenged to go beyond my abilities and push to better myself.”

Launched in 2012, the Trishredathon was created to support STOKED’s programs in Los Angeles while engaging the large action sports community of California. With professional snowboarder Travis Rice in attendance, Trishredletes raised nearly $13,000 in 2012. This year, STOKED aims higher seeking to double that and more. X Games host and STOKED co-founder Sal Masekela will be one of the participating Trishredletes, while custom snapback and fitted hat company Flat Fitty and ski resort Snow Summit are among this year’s sponsors.

Registration for Trishredathon 2013 participants remains open through March 10, 2013. STOKED is currently seeking additional sponsors for the event. 100% of the proceeds benefit STOKED Los Angeles. For more information and to sign up, please visit Trishredathon.com.

About STOKED

STOKED, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 2005 by Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela, host of the X Games, on the belief that the courage and perseverance needed to learn how to skateboard, snowboard, and surf would be an ideal way to teach life skills to youth from disadvantaged urban communities. STOKED’s mission is to promote personal development, academic achievement, and healthy living to underserved youth through action sports culture. STOKED operates in both New York City and Los Angeles, providing afterschool, action sports, community service, and mentoring programs, and has developed partnerships with a vast array of public schools and other nonprofit organizations to reach its intended population.
