KETCHUM, ID (July 17, 2014) – On the heels of receiving the prestigious international Red Dot Award and the 2014 iF Design Award earlier this spring, SMITH is pleased to announce the Forefront bike helmet is the recipient of a 2014 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA®) by the Industrial Designers Society of America.

A panel of 24 international design experts from design consultancies, corporations and universities judged nearly 2,000 entries this year, ultimately naming SMITH a Gold award recipient among the 26 top winners, including leading innovation brands Tesla and Nokia. The jury evaluated entries on aspects of industrial design excellence including: innovation; benefits to the user and client; and sustainability as well as the design’s visual appeal.

In addition to the notable international design accolades, the Forefront also received the GOLD Award in the category of Design & Innovation 2014 by Enduro Mountainbike Magazine, following up on the Best of Interbike Show Awards this past fall from Outside Magazine and Gear Junkie.

The all-new Forefront (MSRP $220) defines SMITH’s innovation platform and serves as the ‘go to’ helmet for all-mountain riders. Created to provide all-mountain protection with road-race weight, the Aerocore™ construction of the Forefront allows riders ventilated protection as never before seen in a bicycle helmet. With up to a 30% improvement over standard EPS impact properties, the patented tubular core structure of the Koroyd® material combines with EPS to create a system of materials designed to surpass current stan¬dards at low and high speeds. Aerocore construction allows for ventilated protection, reduced weight, and reduced volume.

Weighing in at 310g (size medium), the Forefront helmet features SMITH’s new VaporFit™ adjustable fit system, inte¬grated camera and light mounting area, and an additional helmet goggle retention strap. Available in three adult head sizes to accommodate a variety of fits and 10 progressive color options offer a range of style choices, all designed with the ultimate integration of sunglasses and goggles in mind
