Surftech announces new

Press release:

SANTA CRUZ, CA – Surftech, the original board manufacturing company, announced today the addition of Rob Farrow as their new VP of Marketing and Mike Pilgrim as their new Director of Product Development. The new additions are part of an ongoing restructuring and overall shift in the organizational structure that began earlier this year with the hiring of new CEO Chris Dunn and the opening of Surftech’s new Southern California offices in Carlsbad.

The new hires are part of a larger plan that includes major changes for the original Santa Cruz offices as well. The Santa Cruz office will transform into the first of its kind hybrid retail concept store in the front, with the product marketing and admin teams in the back.

“Santa Cruz was the birthplace of the brand and is a huge part our DNA that we want to preserve and celebrate,” said CEO Chris Dunn. “We are relocating our operations to a more high profile, customer facing retail concept store, with administrative offices attached behind, right in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz early 2015.”

Surftech started in 1989 when Randy French created a prototype composite surfboard for then rising star Rusty Preisendorfer launching what has grown into a global board manufacturing company, representing many of the worlds top craftsman. They were the first company to produce paddleboards and the first to introduce a production Stand Up Paddleboard. The last few years have proved to be very challenging with increased competition, aging product lines and back-to-back to CEO changes, never allowing the company to gain momentum. These challenges were the impetus for the new direction and recent additions to the brand’s management team.

“I knew coming into this we were going to have to work twice as hard to gain and retain the trust of our retailers and our customers. Earlier this year we began executing on a new directional strategy for the company, which our network of retailers and partners has overwhelmingly welcomed. We have a ground swell right now and the addition of Rob and Mike to our management and production team we will continue the momentum,” Dunn added.

“I am thrilled to be coming on board at Surftech,” said new VP of Marketing Rob Farrow. ”Having worked with them as a consultant for the last 8 months and contributing to the new brand direction has been awesome.  Getting to continue to work with such a great team of people moving into the new season with so many new initiatives coming on line is going to be really exciting. Surftech is one of those brands that has a great story and I look forward to being able to share it with the world.”

“Surftech has always been a leader when it comes to innovation and technology in board manufacturing” Director of Product Development Mike Pilgrim “Its exciting to join the company and become a part of this huge legacy of iconic shapers and craftsman partnering them with our extensive R&D department to develop new products that will transform the surf industry.”
