DC Shoes + Lucien Clarke Collaboration to Release July 22
Lucien Clarke personifies DC’s unique positioning at the intersection of style, performance, skateboarding, and fashion. Jamaican-born, London-bred Clarke has traversed an eclectic path through life – from his career as a professional skateboarder to his emerging career as a Creative Director – he has become one of the most influential faces of streetwear in the process, representing brands including DC Shoes and Palace Skateboards to Louis Vuitton to Calvin Klein and Gucci.
This DC x DCV’87 collaboration introduces the DCV’87 Lynx, a unique combination of a Lynx Zeroupper and Lynx OG sole, a hybrid designed by Lucien and custom-tailored to his personal preferences.
With this highly-personal creative project, it made sense to shoot in Clarke’s Jamaican birthplace, where he traveled to shoot the lookbook with fellow DC and Palace skateboarder Kanin Garner and photographer Julian Klincewicz recognized for his recent video and photography work for Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, Kayne West, and Beyoncé.
“Our first project with Lucien is all about the innate chemistry between DC’s heritage and his creative point of view. DC meets DCV’87. It just made too much sense, so we made it the jumping off point for what will be a series of exciting projects to come,” said Michael Minter, Global Head of Marketing, DC Shoes.
Q+A WITH LUCIEN
1. Ok, so tell us how it feels to drop your first project with DC?
[Lucien] Feels amazing man, international rollout! Really important, and excited to get my vision out for such an iconic shoe silhouette.
2. We know this isn’t a pro model per se but rather a collab with your brand DCV’87. Can you tell us about DCV’87? What’s your vision for it?
[Lucien] (DCV’87 is) the collaboration between my mind and skateboarding. My brand really has no limits, never boxed in, only open-minded creativity.
3. Is the fact that your brand and footwear sponsor share the initials “DC” just a coincidence? Or is there more to it than that?
[Lucien] Waaaaay more to it. 87 says fate backwards.
4. You’ve kind of gone full circle with skateboarding, streetwear, and high fashion. Tell us about that journey and where this project fits into that.
[Lucien] The natural flow of skateboarding into luxury, luxury to skateboarding.
5. You often say “I saw this coming.” Tell us what that phrase means to you relative to this moment.
[Lucien] I saw this coming, really means what it says; we planned this like an architect.
6. Are there any interesting details we should be aware of with these shoes?
[Lucien] The insoles screams “I saw this coming”and “it’s not a fucking game”.
The highly anticipated DC Shoes x DCV’87 collection releases globally on July 22, 2023. For more information about the collaboration, please visit DCShoes.com.
